Firmware update process


IMPORTANT! Thank you to carefully read all of this procedure first! Then please follow the process step by step by reading them one more time.

There is different ways to update the firmware of the Zappiti 4K HDR range:

  1. Firmware update
    - OTA (OverThe Air) > through the firmware page on the player
    - USB .zip > through the firmware page on the player

  2. Restore
    - On the Zappiti 4K HDR: Home / MyApps / launch the app "Reset Factory".
    - USB flash drive on USB 2.0 port + Restore button

  3. Recovery (in case of black screen)
    - USB flash drive on USB 3.0 port (without Restore Button).

Online Firmware Upgrade.

Firmware Upgrade OTA (Over The Air)


1. Switch ON your Zappiti player 4K HDR.
2. On the main page, please click on MY APP button.
3. Click on "SystemUp". Local version is the version installed in the media player. Online version is the last available version. If your version is not the last one you, click on Online Upgrade button and follow the on-screen procedure.. Please do not disconnect the Zappiti player during the upgrade procedure!
Note: to display the log info about the last available version, please click on "Update log" button.


Firmware Upgrade via USB

1. Switch ON your Zappiti player 4K HDR.
2. On the main page, please click on MY APP button.
3. Click on "SystemUp". Local version is the version installed in the media player. Online version is the last available version. If your version is not the last one you, and if you do not want to upgrade your media player via USB, please download this ZIP file and place it on a USB Flash Drive:

4. Then, click USB Upgrade button.
5. Locate the ZIP file and select it.
6. Please wait till the end of the process.
Note: the first restard may be long.

7. After the reboot, please click on "Settings", then set your language.
Note: the Zappiti Settings are saved. You will not have to set again your Zappiti login and password.

Restore Firmware Procedure.
Zappiti 4K HDR

Factory Reset via "Factory Reset" App

In some cases, a factory reset may be required.
Warning! This procedure will reset all your personal settings and account information.

1. Turn on your Zappiti 4K HDR.

2. Click the "My App" button.

3. Click the "Factory Reset" icon.

4. Please wait during the reset process.

Warning! The first restart of the media player is very long!

Restore Firmware Procedure via USB

Warning! This procedure will reset all your personal settings and account information.
Thank you to carefully read all of this procedure first! Then please follow the process step by step by reading them one more time.

1. Download the firmware file here bellow on the internal HDD of your computer. (Not directly on the flash drive).

Note: As the Zappiti Mini 4K HDR have less memory than the two other models, the firmware file is different.


2. Place the IMG file on a USB flash drive formatted in FAT32.

3. Switch off the Zappiti player by using the Power On / Off button located on the back side.

4. Connect the USB flash drive into the USB 2.0 port of the media player located next to the "RESTORE" button and disconnect the network cable.

5. Press the "RESTORE" button by using a paper clip (small hole located on the side of the unit). While holding the reset button, turn on the player via the power button on / off at the rear of the unit. Hold the "RESTORE" button within 5 seconds, then release it.

6. WARNING! Do not turn off the media player before the full reset.

7. A percentage will be displayed on the screen.
IMPORTANT: if you have black screen, switch off the player and try again by checking the following points:
- Please use USB Flash drive up to 4GB. Some of 8GB and over may not works.
- Try again by connecting your Zappiti media player directly to your TV (without AV receiver or soundbar).
- Did you try to download again the firmware? Maybe the firmware ahve been incorrectly downloaded.
- Did you download the firmware file on the internal HDD of your computer or directly on your USB flash memory drive? You have to download it on the internal HDD of your computer. (Not directly on the flash drive).
- Did you uncompress the file on the internal HDD of your computer or on your USB flash memory drive? You have to extract it on the internal HDD of your computer. (Not directly on the flash drive).
- Did you try to plug your USB flash drive on another USB input? If it doen't work on the USB 2.0 port, try again on another USB port.
- The first initial boot after the firmware update is very long. If you switched off the player during the first initial boot, your firmware is dead. In such case, please contact us...


8. The percentage 99% or 100% is very long. This is quite normal. Please wait until the appearance of "Z" logo. As long as the Zappiti logo is not displayed, do not turn off or disconnect the player above! Warning! The first initial start up is VERY long. So thank you for your patience throughout the initialization of the media player until you reach the player's home page (Zappiti / Explorer / MyApps). DO NOT RESTART the player until the main page appears.

9. After the first initial boot, connect the Ethernet cable (if you are using it usually). Then we advise you to restart the player for better performances. The second boot should be much faster.

10. After the second reboot, please click on "Settings", then set your language.

Recovery Firmware.
Zappiti 4K HDR

 

Recovery Procedure after Firmware Update Crash.

IMPORTANT! Thank you to carefully read all of this procedure first! Then please follow the process step by step by reading them one more time.

1. Please download the recovery firmware file:

2. Uncompress the file with WinRar and place the all files at the top level (root) of an USB flash drive (up to 4 GB) formatted in FAT32.

3. Connect the USB flash drive to one of the USB 3.0 port of your Zappiti 4K HDR.
WARNING! Please don't use the USB 2.0 port for this procedure!

4. Connect your Zappiti Player 4K directly to your TV in HDMI instead of your AV Receiver.

5. Start the Zappiti Player 4K without pressing the RESTORE button (located on the left side).

6. Please wait... Please check the blinking of the USB flash drive LED to verify that the firmware is proceed the installation well.
Note: your Zappiti 4K HDR will show a black screen during the recovery process. It is normal.

7. After about 15 minutes, the Zappitit 4K HDR will reboot by itself. The initial boot will take about 5 min. If you don't see any image after 30 min (black screen), pleased connect the media player to the HDMI input of a monitor or to another TV and try again the procedure.

8. Done! Then you just have to enter your "Zappiti" account in Zappiti apps.

Zappiti Player 4K (Realtek)

Firmware update process: 

IMPORTANT! Thank you to carefully read all of this procedure first! Then please follow the process step by step by reading them one more time.

How to check the firmware version:
To check the current version of your firmware, go to player settings, then click the "About" button localized on the bottom of the page and locate "build number". For instance:
rtk_phoenix eng4.4 KRT-160 eng.tony.20150825
The date number (ex. 20150825) is the firmware version installed in your player.
Warning! If you bought your Zappiti Player 4K recently, the firmware reference name is directly written in "Build number".

1. Download the last firmware file here bellow on the internal HDD of your computer. (Not directly on the flash drive).

2. If you downloaded a ZIP file, please extract it on the internal HDD of your computer. (Not directly on the flash drive). Place the IMG file on a USB flash drive formatted in FAT32.
Note for MAC users: to download a ZIP file without decompressing it, go to the Safari settings, then uncheck "Automatically open reliable files." Then unzip the file using WinZip Mac Edition or equivalent software. To format USB Flash drive (up to 4GB) in FAT32, Mac OSX create 2 partitions. So please copy the IMG file on the 2 partitions to be sure that the player will see it on the boot sequence.

3. Switch off the Zappiti Player 4K by using the Power On / Off button located on the back side.

4. Connect the USB flash drive into one USB 3.0 port located the left of the unit and disconnect the network cable.

5. Press the reset button by using a paper clip (small hole located on the side of the unit). While holding the reset button, turn on the player via the power button on / off at the rear of the unit. Hold the reset button within 5 seconds, then release it.

6. WARNING! Do not turn off the Zappiti Player 4K before the full reset.

7. A percentage will be displayed on the screen.
IMPORTANT: if you have black screen, switch off the player and try again by checking the following points:

13. Then, please install the Zappiti and Zappiti Explorer apps via USB by using the following procedure

14. Then, you should uninstall ES File Explorer. Indeed, the latest version on ES File Explorer app generates HDD recognition issues even on Zappiti Explorer.

3. Fix no sound of AAC / MP3 / MPEG-AUDIO when HDMI Passthrough is enabled. Now the audio switch is full auto and works on Zappiti but also on the other apps such as Netflix or YouTube.

Zappiti Player / Zappiti Player Mini (Sigma Designs)

Firmware update process:

Check the firmware version of your Zappiti Player
1. Start your Zappiti Player.
2. Press "SETUP" button of your RC.
3. In the SETUP menu, go down the page with PAGE-, then select "i" icon and press ENTER. 
4. On the info page, you'll find the firmware version.


Updating process

1. Download the firmware file here below. The firmwares are compressed in ZIP file (".zip").
2.Uncompress the ZIP file. You can do it with WinZip, or other softwares (WinRar, 7z, ...). You'll get a ".dff" file.
3. Connect the flash memory to your computer. 
4. Wait until the flash memory mount on your computer.
5. Copy and past the ".dff" on the flash memory root. 
4. Unplug the flash memory from the comuter.
5. Connect the flash memory to a free USB Host port of your Zappiti Player. 
WARNING! Please disconnect all your other devices and HDD (internal / external) connected to your Zappiti Player before to start the firmware update process.
6. Start your Zappiti Player. Note : more info on Zappiti Player Quick Start Guide
7. Wait until the end of the stating up process.
8. Select your flash memory with UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT buttons of your Zappiti Player RC. Then, press ENTER. 
9. Select the firmware update file (.dff). Then, press ENTER.
10. Several messages will appear on the screen. Select OK and press ENTER on every screen.
11. Please wait until the end of the upgrade process. 
12. A message "Restart" will appear. Select OK then press ENTER. Please wait 40 sec.
13. The main menu will appear again. The firmware upgrade process is done.
14. Unplug the flash memory and enjoy!

NOTE : it is possible to upgrade the firmware via Ethernet or Wi-Fi directly from the Zappiti Player.

Recovery procedure after firmware update crash

In case of firmware upgrade crash (e.g. the player is switched off during firmware upgrade), firmware recovery is possible in most cases. IMPORTANT! Thank you to carefully read all of this procedure first! Then please follow the process step by step by reading them one more time.

Perform the following steps:

1. Put a firmware DFF file at the top level of a USB flash drive (preferably use exactly the same firmware version as was attempted to install during the failed upgrade).
2. Rename the firmware DFF file on the USB flash drive into "dune_firmware.dff".
3. Switch the player off (using the power button on the player).
4. Attach the USB flash drive with the "dune_firmware.dff" file to the player.
5. Switch the player on.
The player should detect the USB flash drive and automatically start firmware recovery procedure. You should see "RECOVER", "CHK 0", "CHK 1"... "CHK 99", "REC 0", "REC 1"... "REC 99", "OK", "EJECT STORAGE AND REBOOT" messages on the front panel of the player.
On an error, a message "ERR ..." is displayed on the front penal of the player. Possible error codes:
- "ERR Ann", "ERR Bnn", "ERR Cnn": A problem with the "dune_firmware.dff" (the file is invalid/broken, the file corresponds to a wrong player model, the file can not be read from the USB drive, etc).
- "ERR Dnn", "ERR Enn": A problem during data copying (e.g. the USB drive disconnected during data copying).
6. Detach the USB flash drive from the player, and delete the "dune_firmware.dff" file from it (do not attach the USB flash drive with this file to the player when you switch the player on, otherwise, the player will attempt to recover the firmware again).
7. Switch the player off (using the power button on the player).
8. Switch the player on. The recovered firmware should load in the usual way.

If this procedure does not solve your issues, please follow this process:
1. Download the firmware version b5, then install it by following the recovery firmware procedure.
2. Reset the Zappiti Player to factory default settings in the Settings panel.
3. Restart the player.
4. Install normally the latest firmware.
